Mandala Painting Workshops

Dot mandala art is very accessible for beginners, focusing on repetitive, calming motions rather than freehand drawing skills which also makes it a relaxing and mindful creative activity. Grid lines are used as a guide to place dots, helping you to produce a symmetrical design and using simple tools and materials like dotting rods, styluses and acrylic paints, anyone can create dot mandala designs! Dot mandala art can then lead on to developing further skills in mandala design, painting technique and colour theory. You may want to develop your mandala painting to include brushwork to broaden your mandala toolkit. There is no end to where you can take your mandala journey!

My workshops are all beginner-friendly and are intended not only to introduce you to the wonderful world of mandala art (and hopefully pass on the mandala bug), but to provide a space for mindful, calm creativity. I offer 3 workshop options:

  1. Public (purple) workshops: These workshops are open to all and take place at Wolverhampton Arts Centre.

  2. Private group (blue) workshops: These workshops offer you the opportunity to book a private mandala workshop for a group of your friends or work colleagues at Wolverhampton Arts Centre.

  3. Mobile mandala (green) workshops: If you would like me to come to your venue to deliver a workshop, then this is the option for you! I can create bespoke workshops to accommodate timings and number of participants.

For information on these options, including upcoming workshop dates, scroll down through this page…

Beginner Dot Mandala Homeware Workshop

This is a 3 hour workshop that will introduce you to the art of dot mandala. You will be painting your choice of either an art stone, a ring dish, an incense stick holder or a tea light holder - all hand-cast by me 🙂. You will be able to choose your own colour palette, with a range of colours to choose from and there will be time to practice on card using the dotting tools before starting to paint your chosen item.

In this workshop you will learn how to:

  • Create guide lines to ensure a beautifully symmetrical design.

  • Use dotting tools and acrylic paints to create dots and ‘swooshes’ of various sizes.

  • Use these tools to create patterns, either following a design or creating your own design!

  • Use painting techniques such as top-dotting (layering one or more dots on top of each other in descending size) to create depth or contrast in your design.

  • Seal your finished piece at home to enhance the colours, give a subtle sheen and protect it from dust, moisture and UV damage (a pot of varnish and a brush will be provided for you to take home to complete your item once it is fully dry).

    What’s Provided?

    Everything you will need:

  • A selection of designs to choose from or create your own!

  • An item to paint - either an art stone, a ring dish, an incense stick holder or a tea light holder, hand-cast by me, ready to paint onto.

  • Guide line stencils and chalk pencils

  • Dotting tools

  • Acrylic paints and varnish

  • Self-adhesive felt for the bottom of your item to protect your surfaces.
